About the Role
JOB TITLE: Trainee Accountant
ROLE TYPE (permanent/temporary): Permanent, Full time
LOCATION / REMOTE WORKING: Based in Hertfordshire. Room to work occasionally from other office locations. Occasional visits to client locations.
HOURS / DAYS (per week): 9am - 5:30pm (7.5 hours per day) Mon - Fri
SALARY RANGE: £24,000 per annum (higher salary for part-qualified/more experienced hires to be discussed)
NOTICE & PROBATION PERIODS: 6 months
BENEFITS / BONUSES / HOLIDAYS: 20 paid annual leave days plus bank holidays, study support and regular work social events.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a trainee accountant you will support the accounts and tax team, and your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Assist with financial record keeping and supporting bookkeeping tasks: maintain accurate financial records, general bookkeeping including bank reconciliation, processing invoices and receipts, processing transactions
- Financial reporting: Assisting with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year end accounts including profit & loss, balance sheet and supporting documentation
- Ad hoc Duties: provide administrative support to the accounting, technical and non-technical teams as required
- Learning and Development: Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities
- External Communications: Liaise with clients to resolve queries and obtain information. Liaise with HMRC and other related organisations
- Preparing self-assessment tax returns
- Preparing VAT returns
- Preparing Corporation Tax returns
- Preparing Capital Gains Tax on UK Property returns
- Preparing Trust returns
- Providing specialist tax advice to our clients
- Preparing R&D claims
You will be provided extensive training on all the above, along with personal development plans. Basic knowledge in these areas would be beneficial but isn't a requirement. The role has the opportunity for growth into a senior role or potentially to specialise in an accounting area of interest.

ANY SPECIFIC TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience working on Microsoft applications such as excel, outlook and word
- Experience working in an office environment or customer facing role
- SAGE, QuickBooks, Xero experience is useful but not a requirement
APPRENTICESHIP COURSES / LEVELS (if applicable):
You will be required to study as part of your employment. This will likely be in the form of the ICAEW Apprenticeship which is fully supported by the company and study leave is provided. However, for candidates already part-qualified, other study options may be considered.
